Purpose

The Geotab Integration connects TRUE with Geotab's GPS tracking devices to automatically update vehicle mileage. Once a Geotab device is linked to a vehicle record, the vehicle's odometer reading in TRUE is kept in sync with the actual distance traveled as reported by Geotab.

Using Geotab in TRUE

Link Geotab devices to vehicles in the Vehicles module to enable automatic mileage updates

Once the integration is enabled in Company Preferences, you can link Geotab devices to individual vehicles in the Vehicles module within the Equipment workflow.

Associate a Geotab tracking device with a specific vehicle record in TRUE.

  1. Click the Hamburger icon to open the navigation menu
  2. Select the Equipment workflow
  3. Click on the Vehicles module
  4. Select the vehicle you want to link
  5. Click Details mode to view the full record
  6. Locate the Geotab Device field
  7. Click the pencil icon to select the correct tracking device
  8. Choose the appropriate Geotab device from the list

Tip: If the device you're looking for isn't showing in the list, click the Refresh icon in the top right corner of the Geotab Device selection window to pull in newly-added Geotab devices.

Caution: Reassigning a Geotab device to a different vehicle in Geotab changes that device's internal ID. If you then click Refresh in TRUE, it can create a new, separate Geotab device entry instead of updating the existing one. If a device stops reporting after being moved to another vehicle, check whether a duplicate device entry was created and re-link to the correct one.

Once a Geotab device is linked to a vehicle, the vehicle's odometer reading in TRUE updates automatically based on the distance traveled as reported by Geotab. The reading can still be updated manually if needed.

Keeping mileage current feeds TRUE's maintenance scheduling: maintenance alerts check both a date threshold and an odometer threshold, so accurate Geotab-reported mileage helps trigger maintenance reminders at the right time based on actual usage, not just elapsed time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about using Geotab integration with TRUE

Setup & Configuration

Yes, you need an active Geotab account to use this integration. Geotab provides GPS tracking hardware (GO devices) that TRUE connects to for automatic mileage updates.

Features & Usage

The Geotab integration keeps vehicle mileage up to date. Once a device is linked to a vehicle record, TRUE automatically updates the vehicle's odometer reading based on the distance traveled as reported by Geotab. That accurate mileage in turn feeds TRUE's maintenance scheduling, which checks both a date threshold and an odometer threshold to trigger maintenance alerts.

Geotab devices are linked to vehicles through the Vehicles module in the Equipment workflow.

  1. Navigate to Equipment workflow → Vehicles module
  2. Select the vehicle you want to link
  3. Click Details mode
  4. Locate the Geotab Device field
  5. Click the pencil icon and select the correct tracking device

Once linked, the vehicle's mileage will update automatically based on data from the Geotab device.
